"Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh' ? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."
This aspect of the Jeremiah 29 Challenge is considered particularly pertinent since 2013. The redefinition of marriage in UK society means that understanding marriage as defined by God at creation is now only one way of understanding its meaning in our culture. Many children will grow up understanding marriage differently from 2014 onwards.
The video published by The Coalition for Marriage is here for you below to view to keep as a memorial to the battle that was undertaken during 2013 asking for redefinition of marriage to not take place. We continue our support for Coalition for Marriage
CCM have committed to working with Harvest Vision at Moggerhanger in forming The Moggerhanger Chapel Fellowship. This Fellowship has dedicated the Chapel, formerly Mrs Thornton’s Bedroom ante-room, which was blessed by the Archbishop of Canterbury at the time of its registration for licensing in 2004, to conduct Christian weddings only. CCM wish to maintain this distinctive, as long as the law permits the “quadruple-lock” to apply, so that the Christian distinctive of marriage can be continually commended to UK culture.
Gillian Orpin, a CCM Trustee and our Licensed Minister officiates at such occasions and gives her insights in the video below.
Tim Vince, our CEO 2010-2013 inclusive, worked throughout his time with us his worked every week on his Revelation TV programme “Bible Study”. Since moving on from Moggerhanger and following the recent legislation redefining marriage he has produced a splendid 2-part Debate on “The future of Marriage”, which went out on air on Revelation TV on 11 December 2013. Parts 1 and 2 of the Debate are reproduced here for your interest below. His engagement with Peter Tatchell, representing a different approach to marriage and Rev David Robertson, was conducted in our opinion in the grace and transparency that we believe should be encapsulated in all CCM engagement with culture. We hope you can see the difference this makes from these excellent videos.
As with all other aspects of CCM ministry we also recommend and seek to partner with other persons, ministries and organisations engaging on the same subjects we are called to minister in.
We would recommend Archbishop Welby’s statements in Parliament in 2013 as he sought for marriage to not be redefined. (See video below)
We supported The Big Promise initiative for 08 February 2014, as this was the last opportunity to affirm publicly the Christian understanding of marriage vows, before legislation changed the nature of marriage from 29 March 2014 onwards.
